On Nov. 8 1946, Viola Desmond stood up against a racially segregated movie theatre in New Glasgow, Nova Scotia. Her courageous stand, 9 years before Rosa Parks' action, was a seminal event in Canada's civil rights movement.

CNS 2010 Diversity Bursary Winners

Tara Reddeck, Teto Elsiddique and Fathelrahman Ahmed

The winners of the 2010 Communications Nova Scotia Diversity Bursary have been chosen.

(Left to Right) Tara Reddeck, Nova Scotia Community College in Dartmouth won the Words bursary, Ideas was won by Teto Elsiddique, Nova Scotia College of Art and Design, Halifax and Fathelrahman Ahmed, Centre for Arts and Technology, Halifax, won in the Images category.

The winners receive a $1,000 and spend day with CNS staff. The judges from CNS who chose the winners were Avril Vollenhoven, Valerie Bellefontaine, David Whynacht and Ruth Le Lacheur.
