The GeoNOVA Program
is pleased to announce a new mapping application
launched in the GeoNOVA Portal.
The
Atlas
of Nova Scotia
is an exciting online mapping
product showcasing over two dozen interesting,
colourful Nova Scotia maps. This interactive
mapping program may be used by anyone with an
interest in geography and in particular Nova
Scotia maps and charts. The application will
appeal to the general public, and will be a valuable
resource for students and educators. The online
atlas displays topographic maps, school locations,
provincial electoral ridings and results, and
much more. Visit the Featured Applications area
of the GeoNOVA Portal to launch this new application.
The Atlas
of Nova Scotia is built using new technologies
available from the Canadian Geospatial Data Infrastructure.
The atlas takes advantage of Web Mapping Services,
or WMS’ and represents a new way to publish
maps online. Groups or agencies that maintain
maps can publish their data to the Internet as
a WMS. Applications such as the Atlas of Nova
Scotia can use an unlimited number of WMS’ from
different sources to present a collection of
maps to users.
This new application was developed by CARIS. With
more than 25 years providing geomatics software
and services, CARIS has expertise and experience
in providing innovative solutions for the management
and analysis of spatial data. To learn more about
CARIS and their solutions, visit www.caris.com.
The Atlas of Nova Scotia was developed with funding
from GeoConnections.
GeoConnections is a national partnership program
to evolve and expand the Canadian Geospatial Data
Infrastructure (CGDI). The CGDI provides Canadians
with on-demand access to geographic information
(e.g. maps, satellite images) and related services
and applications in support of sound decision making.
The GeoNOVA Portal is the Province of Nova Scotia’s
commitment to providing access to anything geographic
in a single, easy to navigate location. The Portal
provides tools to search for geographic data and
applications, tools to download data, and applications
to explore and analyse maps and geography.
