What's New?

James Boxall, Dalhousie GIS Centre on CBC Information Morning

Lewis MacDonald has been driving his taxi up and down Highway 102 in Nova Scotia for decades. Like many of us, he has given full attention to the big blue sign near Stewiacke that boasts "You are now halfway between the Equator and the North Pole." Being a man for detail, Lewis knew that meant he was crossing the 45th Parallel but when Lewis's cab was recently outfitted with a fancy new navigational tool called GPS, he discovered he wasn't where he thought he was. James Boxall, the Director of the Geographic Information Systems Centre at Dalhousie University, discusses why there is a discrepancy.
