Privacy

Patient privacy has been an important part of the planning for SHARE.  Only authorized healthcare providers will have access only to the information they need to perform their role in patient care. 

For example, the hospital registration clerk has access only to identifying information such as name, address, and Health Card number to ensure that the patient is correctly identified in the system. 

The emergency room doctor, however, has access to the complete record, including results of diagnostic tests, to assist him or her in evaluating the patient’s condition, and in determining treatment.
