Emergency Care Standards

Nova Scotia could be the first province in Canada to implement and meet standards for emergency healthcare. As a follow-up to his emergency care recommendations report, Dr. John Ross has developed minimum care standards. The standards were presented the Health Minister Maureen MacDonald on November 30, 2010.

Dr. Ross developed minimum emergency care standards that provide guidance for:

  • Access
  • Triage
  • Transfer
  • Staffing Qualifications
  • Site Performance
  • District Health Authority Performance
  • Clinical Personnel Practice Quality Review
  • Patient Satisfaction
  • Equipment

The standards are designed to give Nova Scotians in all regions access to quality and consistent patient care.
