What are Genetic Services?*
Individuals seeking genetic services may have a personal and/or family history of a genetic condition. They may also be concerned that a condition in their family has a genetic cause, which could impact their health or the health of future generations.
Maritime Medical Genetics provides genetic services for all three Maritime Provinces . The services include consultation, screening, diagnosis, treatment and counseling for a range of genetic conditions including prenatal, pediatric, metabolic, general and cancer cases.
For more information on medical genetics please visit the Maritime Medical Genetics Service Web site at www.iwk.nshealth.ca/genetics.
How do we measure wait times for Genetic Services?
Wait times are measured by counting the number of calendar days from the time the referral is received by Maritime Genetic Services to the day the appointment takes place.
Note: * In order to ensure each patient is provided with comprehensive and accurate information concerning their condition, a considerable amount of work may need to be done in advance of the patient being offered an appointment.
