The final report, (en Français) of the Pension Review Panel was submitted on Jan. 27, 2009.

In November 2007, the Nova Scotia government said it would establish an expert advisory panel to review the Province’s current pension legislative framework.

Three distinguished individuals were appointed in February 2008 who, together, brought decades of experience in the world of pensions and financial planning to the table. The panel members were:

  • Bill Black, panel chair, former president and chief executive officer, Maritime Life
  • Dick Crawford, former president of the Canadian Institute of Actuaries; former president, chief executive officer and chairman of Maritime Life, and
  • Ron Pink QC, labour lawyer, who has served as a leader in the Canadian Bar Association and at the provincial level.

The Pension Review Panel released a Discussion Paper (en Français) outlining some of the most significant issues that affect pension plans and inviting feedback from stakeholders. There were 51 written responses and meetings with panel members.

A position paper Position Paper (en Français) followed in October 2008 to respond to the discussion paper feedback and to seek additional input. There were 42 written submissions and additional meetings with stakeholders.
