Consultation Begins on Trucking Regulations Review
Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal
June 13, 2008 1:47 PM
The province is consulting the trucking industry on how improvements can be made to the regulations, policies and procedures that govern the industry.
"Trucking is a vital part of our economy and is relied on by everyone from manufacturers to suppliers to all Nova Scotians who need goods delivered to their communities," said Murray Scott, Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal. "We're committed to working with the trucking industry to help reduce the paperwork burden while maintaining the high standards we all rely on."
The trucking industry is regulated under three pieces of legislation and about 40 regulations. Many of the regulatory requirements have been developed co-operatively with other Canadian jurisdictions to ensure smooth movement from one province to another.
The review will look at all regulations and policies with the goal of reducing the regulatory burden while ensuring continued compliance with safety rules and the protection of roads. The review also supports the province's Better Regulation Initiative to reduce administrative burden for business while protecting Nova Scotians.
A discussion paper has been developed to guide the consultation and an online survey is available at www.gov.ns.ca/tran .
"We want to hear from all those interested in improving regulation and support for the trucking industry," said Mr. Scott.
Meetings for trucking industry representatives are being held across the province. All meetings are from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.:

-- Tuesday, June 17: Yarmouth, Rodd Grand Hotel, 417 Main St.
