Akins collection ~ The core of the NS Archives Library is the Akins Collection — over 5000 books, pamphlets and periodicals accumulated during the nineteenth century by Thomas Beamish Akins, Nova Scotia's first Commissioner of Public Records (Provincial Archivist). Over 1400 of the 5000+ titles in this collection have now been migrated into the online catalogue, and can be explored either there or via this separate search for Akins items only.
There is also a published guide to this special library, A Catalogue of The Akins Collection of Books and Pamphlets (F90 N85 AR2P no. 1) available for consultation at the Archives; and all the titles are listed as well in the Library Card Catalogue in the Archives Reading Room.
Any call number pre-fixed by 'AK' indicates that the item described is in the Akins Collection. All Akins material must be requested by Request Slips; items are retrieved during weekday open hours only (or by pre-booking).
