Did You Know We're Open Wednesday Evenings?


The Public Archives Building at 6016 University Avenue, Halifax, NS is open Wednesday evenings until 9:00 p.m. For researchers able to visit in person, this boosts the number of open hours to a total of 52.5 per week. For those who work during the day or live outside Halifax, extended hours on Wednesday evenings provides more flexibility in planning a research visit.

Pre-booking is required for Wednesday evening and Saturday retrieval of hard-copy archival materials, some library items, photographs, maps, or sound and moving image material. Researchers can book these holdings in advance by phone (902) 424-6055, by fax (902) 424-0628, by e-mail or in person during regular open hours. You must be able to provide the retrieval number/location code for the material you wish to use, and you must place your request by 3:00 pm Wednesdays (for Wednesday evening use) or 3:00 pm Fridays (for Saturday use).

Six Internet-enabled computers are available for public use in the Reading Rooms — and for researchers with laptops or personal communications devices, all public areas of the Archives building have wireless connectivity.

Closed on Sundays, Statutory Holidays and Saturdays falling within Holiday Weekends. (see Holiday Schedule)
